Even though popular entertainer, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, aka D’banj, who broke up from the Mo’hits record label he co-founded, has dismissed rumours he is broke, sources say the self acclaimed ‘Koko Master’ or ‘Eja n’la’ as he has recently come to be called, is broke and has resorted to borrowing to cover up his imminent bankruptcy. It would be recalled that sometime towards the end of 2014, D’banj, who in 2012 left Mo’Hits following conflict with his partner, Don Jazzy, was rumoured to be on the brink of financial ruin. But despite the denials, reliable sources claim that D’banj is broke and has resorted to borrowing just to cover up the fact that his finances have taken a nosedive. The ‘Koko Master’ has applied to a popular first generation bank with which he has an account for a N68million loan. According to D’banj in the loan application, he needs the said N68 million to enable him purchase a house for his mother in Lagos. Confiding in this medium, a source said ‘Eja n’la’ has approached the Garki Area 8 branch of the bank in Abuja for the loan, but that it is very likely he will not get the loan as his bankers were afraid that he might not be able to pay up the loan as he is broke. “The fact is that the bank is afraid that he might not be able to pay back as there is no guarantee he can pay up, since the news is all over the place that he is broke and we are aware that the account he operates with us is no longer serviced as it used to be,” the source said. It would be recalled that D’banj had in January got himself a new car he described as “Custom Made Jet on the Road,” as he celebrated his 10th anniversary in the professional music scene. He shared a picture in his new car and captioned it: “Going home After A great Press Conference in my New Custom Made JET ON THE ROAD .My Gift to Myself #10thanniversarymovement #feelingthenikka #ciroclifengr.” He is best known internationally for his 2012 summer hit ‘Oliver Twist,’ an up-tempo dance fusion of Afrobeat and electronic dance music that topped the African charts in 2011, and was a top-10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012, reaching No. 2 on the UK R&B chart.
