Chelsea have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals Arsenal in a bid to sign Sami Khedira in January, according to reports.Both London clubs have been strongly linked with the 2014 World Cup winner dating back to the summer.
Sami Khedira is in the final season of his contract at Real Madrid and is set to leave the defending UEFA Champions League winners in 2015.
The Daily Express claim that the Blues could wrap up a deal for the 27-year old midfielder with Petr Čech going in the other direction.
Real Madrid are reportedly after another goalkeeper despite having Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas at the club. The world football giants have been linked to Manchester United’s David de Gea recently.
Petr Čech is currently backup to Thibaut Courtois and has hinted he wants to leave Stamford Bridge in the near future for first-team football. Provided Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti would offer him that, a swap deal with Sami Khedira would seemingly suit both parties.
Arsenal pulled out of a deal to sign Khedira over the summer due to extortionate wage demands from the German international. It would appear that the Gunners may have missed out on the opportunity to bring the Real Madrid player to the club now that Chelsea hold the upper hand.
