Yaya Toure's agent Dimitri Seluk has revealed that the source of the player's unhappiness is stemmed from how his birthday row was handled.
The Ivorian was said to have been unhappy that he didn't get birthday wishes from Manchester City which sparked off speculation that he wants out at the club.
However Seluk said that everything was misinterpreted and blown out of proportion by the media.
"My agent made a little joke about it and people took it seriously," Seluk said on BBC 's Football Focus.
"I was quite surprised about the way people and the media reacted to that."
On Friday,City manager Manuel Pellegrini admitted that Toure needs the club's support, with growing concerns over his form.
