The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Anambra State, Chief Ugochukwu, Okeke has faulted the creation of more polling units by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as he accused the commission’s Chairman, Prof. Attaharu Jega of bias.
The electoral umpire had earlier last week announced the approval of additional polling units for some parts of the country, a move which drew the commendation of some stakeholders, who out rightly accused INEC of giving advantage to particular geo-political zones of the country.
For instance, Zamfara state alone witnessed an increase in its polling units from 2,516 to 3,679, adding that after considerable observation by INEC in all the states approval was given for additional polling units according to the need of each state.
The electoral body equally stated that of the additional polling units were put in place to make for voting convenient and ensure that nobody was disenfranchised.
Not withstanding these explanations, Okeke, who contested the November 16, 2013 governorship primaries under the platform of the PDP in the state maintained that INEC had by that development favoured the Northern part of the country to the detriment of the South in the 2015 general election.
He therefore, joined forces with other stakeholders from the Southern part of the country to prevail on the INEC boss to revisit the exercise to ensure equity, fairplay and good conscience.
