Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau with some of his followersEmerging reports have it that Abubakar Shekau has been killed in Borno. But with no confirmation, the Boko Haram leader still remains Nigeria's most feared man.

According to unconfirmed reports, Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau is dead.

The reports have it that he was supposedly killed during a military operation in Konduga, Borno state on September 17, 2014.

However, the news of his death is based largely on supposition and probability for now so here are 7 reasons why he might not be dead.

1. There has been no official confirmation from the Defence Headquarters or the Nigerian Army.

2.  There is no evidence except a purported photo of the deceased terrorist which has no concrete forensic backing.

3.  The report emanated from PR Nigeria, said to be the “image maker” of the Nigerian government, not from any credible military sources.

4.  All the military and intelligence personnel cited in the report were not named.

5.  The reports are conflicting with some saying Shekau was killed while yet others say someone who has been mimicking him was killed.

6.  According to the reports Shekau was probably killed on September 17 but news of his purported death was released on September 21, 4 days later. According to the 26 stages of death, it takes only about 24 hours for a person’s face to become essentially unrecognizable after death.

7.  Shekau was said to have been killed in August 2013 by the Joint Task Force.
